Overview
Vanilla is a private web browser designed to keep your browsing activity private by default.
Vanilla does not collect, track, store, sell, or share your personal data. The app does not run analytics, ads, or account tracking, and includes no advertising or tracking SDKs.
Because a browser's job is to load websites, some data is necessarily handled on your device or sent to the websites and search providers you choose to use. This policy explains the difference between what Vanilla does (nothing) and what those third parties may receive under their own policies.
Data Vanilla Does Not Collect
Vanilla does not collect, transmit to us, or store on our servers any of the following:
- Browsing history
- Search queries
- IP addresses
- Device identifiers
- Cookies or trackers
- Analytics or usage data
- Personal information of any kind
We have no servers that receive your data and no account system. There is nothing for us to sell or share.
Data Stored on Your Device
To work as a browser, Vanilla stores certain data locally on your device. This data stays on your device and is not synced or backed up to any server we control:
- Browsing history, frequently visited sites, open tabs, favicons, app settings, and autocomplete cache.
- Website data stored by the system browser engine (WebKit), such as cookies, local storage, IndexedDB, caches, and saved logins for the sites you visit.
Search and Autocomplete
When you type in the address bar, the text may be sent to DuckDuckGo to provide search suggestions. This request is made to DuckDuckGo and is handled under DuckDuckGo's privacy policy, not by Vanilla.
Third Parties: Websites and Search Providers
The websites you visit and the search and autocomplete providers you use are independent third parties. When you visit a site or perform a search, that third party may receive your IP address, the URL or search terms, cookies, and device and browser information, and may handle this data according to their own privacy policies. This is outside our control.
Clearing Your Data
The "Clear All Data" option removes the browsing data stored on your device, including WebKit website data, cookies and saved logins, caches, browsing history, open tabs, favicons, and the autocomplete cache.
Children's Privacy
The app does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
Changes
If this Privacy Policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page.
